Salmon protein concentrate
The products comprise processed by-products from the North Atlantic salmon production. The products roughly compare to fish meal, but in some respects there are important differences.

The products are manufactured exclusively from salmon. Salmon is bred all year and is in stable supply. This ensures a constant level of nutrient (product sheet) in the products, which makes feed optimization safe and easy (feed optimization).

Shortly after the slaughtering of the salmon the by-products are conducted through a grinder, and acid and antioxidant are added to ensure a uniform product which will keep. The added acid dissolves skeleton parts, thus making the minerals easily digestible (feed optimization). Furthermore, formic acid lowers the pH of the products to less than pH 4, thus reducing the risk of bacterial growth and in co-operation with antioxidant ensuring a product which will keep for a minimum of 12 months.

Today more attention is paid to the composition of fatty acids in the feed than previously. Salmon oil contains a high level of unsaturated fatty acids, e.g. the important 3 and 6 fatty acids. The fat content of the products is constant, and the fatty acid profile is available upon request (ordering information).

Salmon protein has a glue effect which means that the use of the products in feed manufacturing will improve pill quality. Furthermore the products will bind dust in dry mixing systems and feeding lines, and the products are easy to handle – directly from tank to mixer without physical handling or contact.

Healthwise the products are excellent. Great demands are placed on fish health at salmon farms, and all salmon must be approved by veterinarians before slaughtering. Sick and dead salmon are discarded and are solely used as a source of energy in biogas plants. Very strict rules apply at fish farms regarding the utilisation of antibiotics, and this means that there is no risk of antibiotics or traces of antibiotics in the products.

Based upon the same product, H-pro® and H-pro 33 have been concentrated to the maximum content of dry matter while maintaining pumpability. Therefore H-pro® is particularly suited for commercial feed manufacturing and for home mixers utilising dry mixing systems.
